Wilkes Barre, is an old coal mining town in N.E. Pa. (The city fathers ask me not to describe it that way, but I have lived here all my life. My father was a coal miner as was his father before him, and why the hell they don't have a statue of a coal miner on the public square, to honor the men that gave their all to this city is beyond me. Shame on the city fathers) But I digress...The Hotel Sterling is right there in town along side the Susquehanna River, As an Artist/Photographer it has a special place in my heart. Years ago, before it fell into ruin and decay I was fortunate enough to be asked to photograph the last major event ever held there, which was the Geisinger Medical Centers Grand Ball. What an evening, complete with Can Can girls, the local political elite, Congressman "Dapper Dan" Flood & wife Catherine and that old rascal, Hollywood's Jack Palance.
